UPDATE: Supply chain situation in Asia

The Corona virus situation is evolving very fast, causing challenges and disruptions to supply chain operations. While the situation in China and Hong Kong remains almost unchanged, the rest of the world now experience large changes. Therefore, we now include South East Asia, Taiwan and India in this update.

27 Mar 2020 - LATEST NEWS

In India, a lock down has been imposed until 14th April. Staff from most offices are working from home. Only essential services remain open. Due to the situation, delays in general cannot be ruled out.

In Hong Kong and China (except Wuhan and Beijing), operation are fully functional.

In Beijing, half the staff is on duty in the office and the remaining staff works from home.

In Wuhan, the office locations remain closed and staff continues to work from home with backup from Shanghai.

In the Hubei province (except Wuhan), the Government is starting to allow some enterprises to gradually resume work, with approval only given by the authorities, after checking prevention control.

In South East Asia and Taiwan, all agent offices are operational. Like many other countries, restriction on public gathering and travelling are implemented and offices are preparing for new restrictions and working from home.

We are constantly monitoring the extraordinary situation and adjusting our approach to ensure that we can continue to keep your supply chains moving in the best, quickest and safest way. For the time being, we cannot rule out delays in the above-mentioned areas, but we will do our utmost to continue our day-to-day operations with little or no impact to your supply chains. We kindly notice that all lead times are suspended due to the current unparalleled situation.

Wuhan operation is functional with staff working from home and full support from the Shanghai office.
All other Chinese offices are fully functional with normal operation.

25 Feb 2020
Please find latest update below:

• Except Wuhan, all Chinese offices are fully operational with staff on duty in the office.
• The Wuhan office will re-open no earlier than 10 March, following Government recomandations. However, staff is working from home and are supported by the Shanghai office. 

11 Feb 2020
We have now recieved the following update:

• Offices in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Dalian, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Xiamen are now fully operational.
• Office in Ningbo: Application of resumption of work was submitted, but has not yet been approved. In the meantime, remote working places have been set up to follow and handle the shipments accordingly.
• Office in Wuhan: We expect to resume work on 14 February, depending on the situation and recommendations from the Chinese authorities. 

06 Feb 2020

Our agent in China is now announcing the following office reopening dates:

• Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Dalian, Qingdao, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Shenzhen offices will resume work on 10 February 2020 (Monday).
• Wuhan office will resume work on 14 February 2020.

30 Jan 2020

At this time, ports, airports, rail and China customs are still operating as per normal, except in Wuhan that remains largely locked down as all flights, trains, busses and ferry services to and from the region have been shut down. However, congestion in all China is expected due to the limited number of trailers available.

The General Office of the State Council has announced the extension of the Chinese New Year holiday until February 2nd. However, municipalities including Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Ningbo as well as Guangzhou and Shenzhen have already announced a further extension and compulsory closure of companies up to February 9th.

Our LEMAN agent, M+R China has informed that none of their employees have been contaminated nor being suspected of carrying the virus and that health and safety guidelines are being carried out. Based on the above constraints, M+R China is currently planning a resumption of work in compliance with government guidelines:

• Beijing, Tianjin offices will resume work on 3 February 2020 (Monday).
• Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Dalian, Qingdao, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Shenzhen offices will resume work on 10 February 2020 (Monday).
• Wuhan office will resume work on 14 February 2020.
